Advantages:

- Visual clues are used to help teach a range of word attack skills.
- Students are able to work at their own pace.
- Students strengths and weaknesses show during this program.
- Students are provided with the help and guidance they need in reading.

Disadvantages:
- May be pricey for some schools.
- "Some teachers and/or schools who are initially reluctant will be willing to try Stevenson later in the year once students' learning differences problems become more evident."
- Teachers need to be trained on how to implement the program.
